The goal of the course is to improve the quality of scientific writing of quantitative research in health research. There will be interactive plenary lectures and coach group meetings.
Various topics will be discussed during the interactive lectures. Students may be asked to complete assignments prior to the lectures. The students will also be expected to set up and manage citation alerts. During the interactive lectures the students will be provided with (parts of) draft manuscripts and are asked to furnish the manuscript with an abstract, title or keywords. In additional, data will be given and students will be asked to construct a table or a figure.
The coach groups will consist of 3 to 4 students and a coach. The students will send (parts) of concept manuscripts to the coaches one week prior to the next meeting. The coaches and the other students in the coach groups will provide the students with feedback about concept manuscripts. The interactive lectures will be given in 2 to 3-hour sessions. The coach group meetings will take 1 to 2 hours. There will be around 7 lectures and 4 to 5 coach group meetings.
The course will take over 4 months.
NB.
1) The course is meant for clinical or epidemiological research.
If your research is in the field of biomedical research (research on fundamental and very basal processes) you cannot participate in this course.
2) Before the start of the course you must have written a substantial part of your article (introduction, methods, part of the results). You will assess each other's articles in the coach groups, so if you have not written enough then that will undermine the group dynamic.
3) PhD students with little writing experience (emerging scientific writers) are referred to the GSMS Publishing in English course.
4) This course is NOT open for Research Master students
5) Narrative review papers are NOT suitable for this course.
Assessment
Mandatory attendance of at least 80% for as well the plenary sessions as the coach group sessions.
