This course is designed to guide you in designing a structured scientific presentation and adapt the content, language and style to suit your audience. Moreover, this course provides tools to reflect on and improve your presentation skills, such as body language. Major aim of the course is to support you in gaining confidence while presenting. At the end of the course, you will practice with presenting your research in a symposium setting.
Learning outcomes
After the course, the student is able to:
· Design a structured and coherent scientific presentation
· Adapt the content, language, and style of a scientific presentation to suit the knowledge level, interest and expectations of the target audience
· Reflect on once presentation skills, including body language and voice, while setting actionable goals for improvement.
Target group
GSMS PhD students who aim to improve their presentation skills.
Intake criteria
Students should be familiar with their own research topic.
Active participation in all 3 workshops is mandatory. ECTS are not rewarded in case of missing one workshop.
Form/content
The course consists of 3 workshops. The first workshop aims to discuss the design and structure of scientific presentations and create audience awareness. Moreover, this workshop provides tools to practice with the different aspects of body language. After this workshop, you will design your own short scientific presentation. You will practice this presentation, including a Q&A session, in a small coach group setting during the second workshop. This second workshop aims to reflect on your presentation skills and set goals for your next presentations. During the 3rd workshop, a symposium setting is simulated in which you practice with presenting your short presentation.
Note: the lectures are completely onsite, NOT online.

2nd workshop: the groups is splitted into 3 groups of about 7 students
